Shu Powders Africa’s lean transformation journey, built on a foundation of efficiency and lean thinking principles, has earned the company global acclaim as a finalist in the prestigious Lean Diamond Awards. What began with small Kaizen initiatives has grown into a company-wide commitment to problem-solving, waste reduction, and continuous improvement, driving Shu Powders toward excellence.


Fostering innovation through lean practices

At the heart of Shu Powders’ transformation lies a culture that embraces lean principles. By introducing Gemba walks, 5S practices in the workplace, and value stream mapping, it streamlined operations and elevated product quality.

Adopting Industry 4.0 technologies has further enhanced Shu Powders’ efficiency. These advancements, together with sustainable practices to minimise energy consumption and waste, showcase the company’s dedication to creating innovative, environmentally responsible solutions.

 

Using Lean tools and knowledge-sharing events as part of the Lean Diamond Awards nomination process allowed Shu Powders to document and share its journey. This process highlighted the company’s successes and ability to overcome challenges, demonstrating its commitment to continuous growth and innovation.

 

The Lean Diamond Awards will publish a 40-page case study on Shu Powders’ Lean journey along with the other 2023 finalists.


Earning global recognition at the Lean Diamond Awards

From over 70 multinational candidates, Shu Powders emerged as one of just 12 finalists for the Lean Diamond Awards. The rigorous evaluation process assessed the company’s lean transformation framework, focusing on innovation, sustainability, and digital transformation as core strengths.

Shu Powders’ lean initiatives were formally documented through a signed collaboration agreement, culminating in an executive presentation at the awards ceremony in Milan, Italy. This moment of recognition celebrated Shu Powders’ achievements and reinforced its position as a leader in lean transformation. The programme’s official book further highlighted these accomplishments, ensuring a lasting impact on the global stage.

Representing the company were Dr. Michael Oehlers and Lean Champion Derosha Moodlier, whose leadership and expertise brought Shu Powders’ story to life, inspiring industry peers from around the world.
